Meet my Forever Friend... Sam...! We have known each other since we were 5 years old and we have been friends all these years. We weren't always in the same class... and we didn't always hang out with the same people...we weren't ever in the same ward... but we WERE always dears friends. This year after 33 years of raising families in different states... we reconnected on Facebook... a wonderful social media. And here we are again Friends Forever. Love you Sam... Love you forever!

My little miracle...

And if that wasn't enough... my shoulder had been bothering me since fall 2009. I was playing volleyball with some of the youth in our ward and I was teaching them how to serve over hand. Well... something popped in my shoulder. It was sore for the entire fall/winter and I finally went to Dr. Toronto after Christmas... 6 months, x-rays, an MRI and 4 shots of cortizone later... I met with a surgeon who within a couple minutes told me I had a calcium deposit in my shoulder joint. He didn't know the size, how long it had been there... or how long it might take to dissolve. So we scheduled surgery.

Keep in mind I was in so much pain I could not even use my left arm... sleeping became impossible without a strong sleeping pill and then I was out for at least 10 hours and groggy a couple more.

Surgery became a welcome option... Dr. Mike Metcalf performed the surgery and 45 minutes later reported to Ken... "No wonder she couldn't move her arm... there was a 3 inch deposit lodged in her joint. Three days later Ken removed the pain pump and cold packing... AND walla... no more pain. I was one of the "lucky" ones. I was in physical therapy in 4 days... back in the temple in a week... finished with PT in 4 weeks... and the Doc said I was free to resume all activity in 4 weeks. Miracles really do happen... Thank you Father in Heaven... thank you for restoring my health so fully and so quickly.

Summer 2010... The Unexpected...

This summer was certainly full of surprises... I started off with a skin cancer diagnosis on my nose... a biopsy... and then plastic surgery performed by Dr. Hunter that took a huge chunk of the tissue between my eye brows. Thanks heaven for an excellent surgeon who know what he was doing... both eyebrow are still the same distance apart. With a little makeup you can't even tell.

However... I was completely out of the sun all summer... no gardening... no pushing grandchildren on the swing... no sunny vacations... 75 SPF sunscreen... and other ointments and oils prescribed by either my surgeon or my loving daughter in law Lauren... who is a expert Nurse Practitioner in a Dermatology Clinic/Spa. Thank you Lauren... for looking out for me... I love you sweet daughter.

Jammie Races have been a tradition since our children were toddlers. Believe it or not this is the one tradition everyone talks about the whole year... we hear things like... We all gathered to celebrated Christmas last weekend... Everyone came to sleepover for Christmas Eve...
The traditional Nativity story was performed as grampa read the account from the Bible. Lauren was our Mommy Angel and helped all the Baby Angels with their assignments.
Brady protested being a shepherd...and opted for Angel Gabriel so he could blow grampa's bugle. RyAnne was a Fairy Angel and sprinkled baby Jesus with magic dust. Emma is just the sweetest little angel...she is just happy to hang out with the other angels.

"Blasting off"... Martin Family Reunion 09

July 2nd tents were pitched and sleeping bags rolled out. Space ships were built in anticipation of the next three action packed days at Grampa and Gramma Martin's... (that's me and Ken... I still can't believe it!) We all gathered to enjoy a fun filled reunion... and had soooooo much fun!

We started our reunion with a trip to the Draper Temple to perform sealings for our ancestors. There was a great spirit in the temple and we loved our time with those who joined us. Thanks for helping us Grampa Christensen!

The next morning we headed to Grampa Christensen's to spread some love and service! His neighbor's mother had just passed away...so we spread the love to their yard too. Gramma Christensen fed us lots of pizza and kept the kids busy with treats!

Sunday we gathered to attend church services and then family dinner together. Grampa taught about Rocketships and how they are supported by a launch pad until they are ready to be powered into space... eventually each rocket has to run on it's own power. He likened this to each of us and how we were born into families who provide a great support system to learn and grow. Eventually we each have to power ourselves to stay on course. Gramma reminded us that just as rockets have a command center to helps them and guide them... each of us have the ultimate command center to help us stay the course and return to our Heavenly Father. After our lesson... Uncle Dave launched homemade rockets much to the delight of the children.

Emma thought her daddy was so funny... when he would slide on the slippery slide she would crack up laughing!
Bam...putting on a show for Emma! Dave won this round of the Wacky Water Races... with the fastest time of 35.8 seconds. It would be well to note that Dave's time is under appeal. Stay tune for round two... and you all know it's coming!

Happy Birthday and Happy Father's Day Ken! This year we had to postpone Ken's Birthday for a month... because of the Temple Celebration that consumed our lives in May. We decided to celebrate with a water party. We all got together to play and BBQ. The casual water party turned into our version of "Wacky Wet and Wild" Races. As usual the Martin brothers could not pass up an opportunity to compete with each other. Here we are all having a great time! (I'm trying to load a slideshow...wish me luck!)

Ken and I just completed one of the most exciting... fulfilling... exhilarating church callings of our lives. Back in February we were called to oversee our stake's participation in the Draper Temple Youth Celebration. Can you imagine 8,000 youth in the Conference Center singing, dancing and celebrating their new temple? It was amazing! Our stake was assigned the "Train" dance... so after almost 4 months, a few train wrecks,and working with almost 600 youth... we decided "at the last minute" to dress like train conductors and have some fun with the youth. They all loved it!

Meet Landon... He is Kenny's 5 year old son. He doesn't like his picture taken... so I get crazy poses. He loves playing with his uncles... and always wants the "whole" family to be together. He just graduated from pre-school... WOW!

Ken and I were called to be temple ordinance workers in the new Draper Temple. We work on Saturdays and we love it.

RyAnne is Kenny's little princess! Aunt Ree taught her how to "strike a pose"... so cute! She is gramma's girl and loves being my shadow. She can talk your ear off and the questions are endless. She loves jumping on the tramp and swinging with Brady or Emma.

Sweet little Emma Grace... is Brandon's little angel and we just adore her. She loves her tongue! Emma is quite picky about who she includes in her inner circle of friends. You can tell if you are included by these signs... #1 She will look at you. #2 Then she might smile at you. #3 If she really likes you... she waves both hands and kicks her feet and growls at you. So cute!

Brady is Sharee's little man... and he is so much fun. He is into tools and raids gramma's tool drawer on a daily basis. The other day we found him lugging around grampa's sledge hammer. His own hammer seemed quite inferior after that. Brady loves being outside and working around the yard with us... he has his own rakes and shovels... however he is usually trying to get us to swap tools with him.
